Concept of Food Baskets underPradhan Mantri TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA)

What is a Food Basket in this scheme?

Under the Pradhan Mantri TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a food basket is a nutritional support kit provided to TB patients to help them complete their treatment successfully. In our initiative, the focus is on a 6-month food basket, ensuring continuous and reliable nutrition rather than short-term relief.

Unlike one-time food distribution, a 6-month food basket provides:

  • Stability

  • Nutritional continuity

  • Long-term impact on health and well-being

Why is a 6-month food basket needed?

1. TB and malnutrition are strongly linked

Nutrition is as important as medicine in TB treatment.

2. Improves treatment success & reduces default

Food baskets help patients stay strong and complete treatment.

3. Enhances immunity & faster recovery

4. Supports National TB Elimination Goal

Nutrition support directly contributes to TB-free communities.

5. Complements Nikshay Poshan Yojana

Both together create effective nutrition assurance.

Typical items in a TB food basket (example)

  • Rice / Wheat / Millets

  • Pulses (dal, chana)

  • Cooking oil

  • Eggs / Milk powder / Soy / Peanuts

  • Nutritional supplements

  • Fruits (where feasible)

(Items may vary based on state guidelines and availability)

Food baskets under PMTB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan ensure that TB patients receive assured nutrition alongside medicines—so no patient is forced to choose between food and treatment.
